Alan Caddell serves as the Director of Training. Alan retired as a Commander with the Santa Ana (CA) police department and has nearly 30 years of varied law enforcement experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration and a Master of Arts degree in Education. Alan is a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Master Instructor, a member of the POST Quality Assessment Program and he served on the POST Instructor Standards Advisory Committee for 10 years. Alan serves as the Director of Training for the Los Angeles County Regional Training Center, and Program Manager for Instructor Development at the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center.
Alan’s teaching experience spans more than 25 years and includes serving as an adjunct instructor of criminal justice at Santa Ana, Santiago Canyon and Rio Hondo community colleges, the University of Phoenix, the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center, and the Orange County Sherriff’s Department. From 2009 to 2015, Alan was a primary instructor in the POST Instructor Development Institute (IDI) and the Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) where he taught and developed curriculum for the Academy Instructor Certification Course, Advanced Instructor Course, Master Instructor Certification Course, ICI Instructor Course, Technology in Investigations Course, and the IDI Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching course. For many years, Alan was a featured presenter at POST Instructor Symposiums teaching video production and instructional technology to law enforcement trainers to develop innovative and interactive learning activities. He received awards of recognition for “Excellence in Redesigning the POST ICI Instructor Course” and “Taking Leadership to the Next Level” for his work with the IDI Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching course.
Mr. Caddell has authored many published articles and books related to instruction and law enforcement including the textbook Police Field Operations: Examining Contemporary Patrol Procedures (Law Tech 2010). He is the creator of the Adult Learning in under 3 Minutes video series (available on YouTube) which are used internationally to support adult-centered instruction. Alan co-authored the text Crime Scene Investigation (Prentice Hall) and Community Relations and Community Based Policing Workbook (Kendall Hunt) and developed a series of video scenarios for the text, Report Writing for Law Enforcement (Law Tech).
