Cyber Operations in Modern Law Enforcement


This course has been designed to provide law enforcement personnel, from any discipline, with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform cyber operations in a multitude of duty assignments. The skills and techniques taught throughout the course can be applied to various law enforcement duties including;

  • Criminal Investigations
  • Situational Awareness
  • Community Relations and
  • Administrative Investigations / Background Investigations

Working on reality-based investigative scenarios, students will augment traditional investigative techniques with the power of the Internet to maximize investigator efficiency, thoroughness, and officer safety. Students will learn how to:

  • Utilize Internet Protocol Addresses (IP Addresses);
  • Conduct a forensic analysis of e-mail headers;
  • Examine mobile devices;
  • Utilize social networking sites for situational awareness;
  • Identify and respond to various criminal incidents;
  • Conduct effective Preliminary Investigations ;
  • Apply appropriate criminal codes;
  • Recognize first amendment and social media issues; and
  • Know and apply current case law

This hands-on, outcome-based training will give students the opportunity to actually complete an investigation including the accompanying search warrants on multiple electronic service providers in order to retrieve the evidence. Attendees will leave this class ready to conduct these types of investigations for their respective agencies.

Course Length – 2 Days (16 hours)
Student Tuition Per Student: $322.00
Max Class Size – 30 Students
Requirements – Computer Workstations or Laptops with Internet Access
Staffing – 2 Instructors
Prerequisite – None
Technical Level – For Beginners and Intermediate Experience Levels

 


 

About the Course Designer

Chris Bouse is one of the few court-qualified experts on Social Media in the State of California, and has testified as a foundation witness in several trials. In addition to his duties at the LAPD, Chris became a certified California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Master Instructor in addition to being a certified instructor for the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigations (ICI).
